Rookie Derrick Harmon “Finds His Mother Again” During Injury Rehab at UPMC Rooney Sports Complex

Derrick Harmon (defensive tackle) - Wikipedia

Pittsburgh, PA – Inside the rehab room of the UPMC Rooney Sports Complex, Pittsburgh Steelers rookie defensive tackle Derrick Harmon is walking through one of the hardest chapters of his young career. Yet, in the middle of ice packs, therapy bands, and recovery drills, he has found something he thought was gone forever: the warmth of a mother’s touch.

The nurse assigned to oversee Harmon’s knee rehab happens to be around the same age as his late mother, Tiffany Saine. From the way she carefully wraps his bandages, reminds him to slow down, or simply checks in with a gentle word, Harmon feels a connection that goes far beyond medicine.

Draft Night should have been his sweetest moment. Instead, it was bittersweet — the night he was drafted in the first round by the Steelers, his mother passed away only hours later. Harmon has carried that wound with him ever since.

Now, every act of care from this nurse stirs something deep within. It reminds him that love can echo, even after loss.

“When she looks after me, it feels like my mom never left,” Harmon admitted quietly. “It’s in the little things — the patience, the kindness, the way she believes in me. For a moment, I feel like my mom is still here, telling me to keep fighting.”

For Steelers Nation, this is more than an injury update. It’s a reminder of what this franchise stands for — family, resilience, and the unseen heroes who help turn pain into strength. As Harmon fights to return to the field, he isn’t just healing his knee; he’s rediscovering a piece of his heart.

Bears Could Get Huge Boost to Pass Rush for ‘MNF’ vs. Commanders
Bears defensive end Austin Booker could return in Week 6. The Chicago Bears could receive a significant boost to their pass rush when they take on the Washington Commanders for Monday Night Football in Week 6. The Bears are now eligible to designate second-year defensive end Austin Booker for return from the injured reserve list after he missed the first four games of the season. Booker had shone in the preseason and seemed the likely choice to serve as the Bears‘ top rotational pass rusher behind veterans Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo coming into the 2025 season, but he suffered a knee injury in August that forced the team to place him on the short-term injured reserve list after the 53-man roster cutdown. Once the Bears designate him for return, they will have 21 days to activate him to the roster or else must leave him on IR for the year. The Bears could provide clues to Booker’s status when they hold their first practice of the week on Wednesday and issue their first injury report for Sunday’s prime-time date with the Commanders. They would need to activate Booker by Saturday afternoon at the latest for him to have a chance of suiting up for them on Monday Night Football. The Bears (2-2) will take on the Commanders (3-2) at 8:15 p.m. ET next Monday.
