Former Packers Punter Forced to Join Browns to Support His Ailing Mother, Though His Heart Remains with Green Bay

Corey Bojorquez has never been scared to compete

Cleveland, September 20, 2025 – Just days before the game between the Green Bay Packers and the Cleveland Browns at Cleveland Browns Stadium, the story of Corey Bojorquez — former Packers punter — has deeply moved fans.

Bojorquez, who contributed on special teams and spent a season in a Packers uniform, recently signed with the Browns under reluctant circumstances. His mother is battling a serious illness requiring long-term treatment, and the family needs a significant sum to cover medical expenses. The Browns were the only team to offer a contract at this time, giving Bojorquez a chance to earn income to support his mother.

For Bojorquez, this decision was a painful choice. After leaving the Packers, he has continued to hold deep affection for the team that gave him the opportunity to grow in the NFL. Now, putting on a Browns jersey just before facing the Packers turns this game into an emotionally charged challenge.

In a private conversation with an old friend, Bojorquez choked up as he admitted:

“I never wanted to stand on the opposite side of the Packers. Green Bay is where I grew up in this league — it’s my football family. But my mother is in pain every day… and I can’t turn my back on her. I just hope people understand this isn’t betrayal, but a son’s responsibility.”

Many Packers fans, rather than criticizing, have expressed empathy and sent well-wishes to Bojorquez and his family. To them, he will always be a part of Green Bay, no matter what jersey he wears.

The Browns believe Bojorquez’s presence will add depth to their special-teams unit, which has been a weak spot through the first two weeks of the season. But for Bojorquez, this weekend’s game is more than an NFL matchup — it’s a difficult journey between his love for the Packers and his duty to his family.

Bears Could Get Huge Boost to Pass Rush for ‘MNF’ vs. Commanders
Bears defensive end Austin Booker could return in Week 6. The Chicago Bears could receive a significant boost to their pass rush when they take on the Washington Commanders for Monday Night Football in Week 6. The Bears are now eligible to designate second-year defensive end Austin Booker for return from the injured reserve list after he missed the first four games of the season. Booker had shone in the preseason and seemed the likely choice to serve as the Bears‘ top rotational pass rusher behind veterans Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo coming into the 2025 season, but he suffered a knee injury in August that forced the team to place him on the short-term injured reserve list after the 53-man roster cutdown. Once the Bears designate him for return, they will have 21 days to activate him to the roster or else must leave him on IR for the year. The Bears could provide clues to Booker’s status when they hold their first practice of the week on Wednesday and issue their first injury report for Sunday’s prime-time date with the Commanders. They would need to activate Booker by Saturday afternoon at the latest for him to have a chance of suiting up for them on Monday Night Football. The Bears (2-2) will take on the Commanders (3-2) at 8:15 p.m. ET next Monday.
