Eagles Super Bowl Champion Regrets Lions Move After Bench 4 Games

Detroit, MI – October 2, 2025

What was supposed to be a homecoming has quickly turned into a nightmare. A veteran defender who left Philadelphia after hoisting the Lombardi Trophy now finds himself questioning his decision to join the Detroit Lions.

Signed to a one-year deal in March, the former Eagle was expected to bring experience, depth, and special teams excellence. Instead, four games into the season, he has yet to see the field on defense.

Avonte Maddox, Super Bowl LIX champion with Philadelphia, admitted frustration after another week as a healthy scratch. The veteran cornerback has not played a single defensive snap since joining his hometown Lions.

“I regret leaving Philadelphia for Detroit. Four games on the bench without a chance to contribute makes it tough to see my role here. In Philly, there was always belief and trust from coaches and fans,”

Maddox said:

Maddox signed a one-year, $1.422 million contract with Detroit, including $167,500 signing bonus and $1.197 million guaranteed. Born in Detroit and a graduate of Martin Luther King Jr. High School, it was meant to be a storybook return.

The reality has been different. Slotted behind younger corners and new additions, Maddox has been relegated almost exclusively to special teams duties. So far, he has been little more than depth insurance for the Lions.

His departure from Philadelphia came after a memorable Super Bowl run, where he recorded a key pass defended in the 40–22 victory over the Kansas City Chiefs. The Eagles opted not to re-sign him, citing cap limitations.

For Maddox, the question now is whether this homecoming lasts beyond one season. What began as a chance to start in nickel packages has become a harsh reminder that sometimes the grass isn’t greener back

VIDEO: Eagles Locker Room Explodes as Jalen Hurts Gets Cursed Out by A.J. Brown After Offensive Disconnect
Philadelphia, PA – October 6, 2025 Tensions erupted inside the Eagles’ locker room moments after their 21–17 loss to the Denver Broncos in Week 5 — their first defeat of the season. Multiple team sources described the postgame atmosphere as “icy,” with star wide receiver A.J. Brown visibly frustrated and distancing himself from quarterback Jalen Hurts. Despite the close score, Philadelphia’s offense struggled to find rhythm. Hurts finished with just 162 passing yards, while Brown — one of the league’s elite receivers — recorded only 3 catches for 27 yards. It marked the third game this season where Brown failed to surpass 30 yards. A.J. Brown reportedly voiced his disappointment behind closed doors, claiming the chemistry that once made the Hurts-Brown duo unstoppable has completely vanished. “It feels like we’re not even on the same page anymore,” one source quoted Brown as saying. “He’s forgetting I’m out there — and maybe I’m forgetting what it feels like to be trusted.” The comments quickly circulated through the locker room, with several players attempting to de-escalate the tension. However, Brown’s remarks highlight a growing frustration among Philadelphia’s offensive stars about play-calling balance and target distribution. Head coach Nick Sirianni downplayed the situation in his post-game press conference, emphasizing unity. “We win together, we lose together,” Sirianni said. “But we have to clean things up — communication, execution, everything.” 👉VIDEO: AJ Brown on the missed deep shot from Hurts: Jalen Hurts responded to the missed deep throw to AJ Brown in his press conference after the Eagles' loss to the Broncos. He said, "I'll have to watch the tape." This implies he doesn't want to comment on the details yet, but needs to review it for analysis. From sources, it appears that AJ Brown slowed down in his run, leading to the miss, but Hurts did not directly blame the play, but took overall responsibility for the play. 👉VIDEO: Jalen Hurts on the missed deep shot to AJThe Eagles, now 4–1, return home next week for a critical NFC matchup — but the spotlight will remain on whether the Hurts-Brown connection can be repaired before it fractures the team’s Super Bowl hopes.
