Bills RB Rookie Explodes for 1 TD and 23 Carries - Runs Out of His Father’s Shadow

Buffalo, NY,August 2025-There are surnames in football that carry weight. “Gore” is one of them.
For two decades, Frank Gore Sr. was the definition of durability — 16,000+ rushing yards, five Pro Bowls, five different uniforms, and a body that refused to quit. For his son, Frank Gore Jr., every carry isn’t just a stat. It’s a test: Can he ever step out of that shadow?

On a humid August night in Buffalo, the answer felt closer. Gore Jr. pounded the rock 23 times, piling up 104 yards and a touchdown in the preseason. His average — 4.5 yards per carry — was more than a number. It was proof that his legs carry more than a legacy; they carry his own story.

Two generations of Gores - Sports Illustrated

When Frank Sr. entered the league in 2005 with the 49ers, he was a third-round pick with doubters circling his injury history. Yet even as a rookie, he delivered — 608 rushing yards, 3 TDs, and flashes of greatness that foreshadowed a Hall of Fame résumé.

Now, two decades later, Jr. walks the same path. But the road is steeper. Unlike his father, he wasn’t a top draft pick — he was a 7th-rounder, fighting for survival. Every rep in camp is a job interview. Every carry is a plea for trust.

Bills RB Frank Gore Jr. motivated by going undrafted: 'There's no way 257 people [were] better than me'

Saturday against the Buccaneers may have been just another preseason game on the schedule. But for Jr., it was something else — the night he proved he belongs. He lowered his pads into defenders, churned through contact, and found the end zone. The crowd roared, not for the father’s memory, but for the son’s arrival.

Bills Mafia noticed. The chants, the comments, the social posts all echoed the same sentiment: “He just saved his NFL dream.”

Frank Gore Jr following in NFL father's footsteps with Bills

Frank Gore Sr. turned rookie flashes into 16 years of consistency. For Jr., the story is still being written. He may never need to surpass his father’s iconic numbers — perhaps no one can. But every time he breaks a tackle, every time he refuses to go down, he honors that legacy while carving his own.

Buffalo doesn’t just see Frank Gore’s son anymore. They see Frank Gore Jr., a back who fights for every inch, and maybe — just maybe — the next chapter in a family saga that has already given football so much.

Bears Could Get Huge Boost to Pass Rush for ‘MNF’ vs. Commanders
Bears defensive end Austin Booker could return in Week 6. The Chicago Bears could receive a significant boost to their pass rush when they take on the Washington Commanders for Monday Night Football in Week 6. The Bears are now eligible to designate second-year defensive end Austin Booker for return from the injured reserve list after he missed the first four games of the season. Booker had shone in the preseason and seemed the likely choice to serve as the Bears‘ top rotational pass rusher behind veterans Montez Sweat and Dayo Odeyingbo coming into the 2025 season, but he suffered a knee injury in August that forced the team to place him on the short-term injured reserve list after the 53-man roster cutdown. You Do It?   Brain Journal While the Bears have not laid out an expected return timeline for Booker, they will have the option of designating him for return to practice in Week 6 if they feel he has made enough progress in his injury recovery. Once the Bears designate him for return, they will have 21 days to activate him to the roster or else must leave him on IR for the year. The Bears could provide clues to Booker’s status when they hold their first practice of the week on Wednesday and issue their first injury report for Sunday’s prime-time date with the Commanders. They would need to activate Booker by Saturday afternoon at the latest for him to have a chance of suiting up for them on Monday Night Football. The Bears (2-2) will take on the Commanders (3-2) at 8:15 p.m. ET next Monday.
